Actress Rashmika Mandana on Monday reacted sharply to a viral deepfake video showing her face superimposed on another woman’s body.
She also called for action against the video’s creators.
In the original video, British-Indian social media personality Zara Patel was seen wearing a black training romper inside an elevator. In the viral video, Zara’s face was edited to resemble Rashmika’s using artificial intelligence (AI).

“It really breaks my heart to share this and I have to talk about the deepfake videos of me being shared online,” Rashmika Mandana wrote on her Instagram Story. This kind of thing is honestly very scary, not just for me, but for each of us who are suffering so much from the misuse of technology today. ”

Rashmika further said that the same incident could have traumatised her had she not been an actor and instead a schoolgirl.
She wrote, ‘Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.’
Earlier, Rashmika Mandanna’s Goodbye co-star Amitabh Bachchan had brought the video to everyone’s attention. He retweeted a post and wrote, ‘yes this is a strong case for legal.’
On the work front, Rashmika will soon be seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’. She also has Rahul Ravindran’s ‘The Girlfriend’, ‘Rainbow’ and ‘Pushpa The Rule’ with Arul Arjun in her kitty.
